An Emphatic Gathering Filled with Insightful Discussions and Industry Expertise

Pune, 2nd February 2025- Symbiosis Centre for Media and Communication is organizing the third edition of its flagship media conference, ‘Pramana,’ on the 2nd and 3rd of February 2025. The highly anticipated conference kicked off today, drawing professionals, thought leaders, and innovators across the industry.

The theme for this year is "Digital Democracies- Intersections of Influence, Consumption, Culture, and Identity in South Asia." The theme explores how the rise of digital technology influences South Asia's political, cultural, and social landscapes.

The first day of the event commenced with a special address by Dr. Rajender Dudrah (Professor of Culture Studies and Creative Industries, Birmingham City University, UK), who is gracing the event as the Guest of honour. This was followed by a keynote speech by Dr. Xenia Zeiler, Professor of South Asian Studies at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Helsinki, Finland.

The first day featured several special sessions and panel discussions, where a spectrum of topics was tackled from ‘Social Media Influence and Micro-celebrities,’ ‘Online Narratives and Political Identities,’ to ‘Digital Spaces, Identity and Memory,’ among others.

The speakers presented papers addressing various topics, such as Press Freedom in different countries, the Rise of Child Influencers, the Homogenization of Wedding Aesthetics, and more. These discussions collectively explored digital media's multifaceted nature, highlighting its beneficial and detrimental aspects.

Throughout the years, Pramana has successfully fostered a culture of media research at SCMC. Being SCMC’s flagship research conference and continuing the legacy this year, Pramana will serve as a dynamic platform for sharing innovative ideas, presenting research findings, and engaging in meaningful discussions about media studies.
